Why Aldrich?

We are committed to providing the highest quality experience for your family. Aldrich provides a rich learning environment without adding undue stress on children, so you can count on your child to be prepared for kindergarten and beyond. Here are some highlights we'd like to share as you explore our school:

Aldrich has a rich history and quality reputation in the Rochester community. Pediatricians and child psychiatrists, including Dr. Benjamin Spock, were involved in a Mayo Clinic study of child development in the 1940s which eventually led to the inception of Aldrich. More on the fascinating history of Aldrich can be found here.

Our school offers a nationally accredited program with high standards. We have our own facility specifically designed for preschoolers, complete with outdoor classrooms, a library, and indoor playrooms for inclement weather. Our wonderful staff is welcoming, compassionate, and knowledgeable. You will find that they enjoy developing relationships with your child and your family.

We promote child-directed, hands-on learning which helps prepare children for life beyond kindergarten. Children learn through experimentation, manipulation, observation, and social interaction. Aldrich also offers opportunities to enrich children’s experiences and extend their days. Choose from Spanish and other enrichment courses like World Chefs or Creative Builders.

Having served the children of Rochester for more than 70 years, Aldrich has touched tens of thousands of lives in Minnesota and beyond. Even two of our faculty members are Aldrich alumni! We love seeing former Aldrich students succeed, and really love when they bring their own children back to enroll. For more on Aldrich alumni, click here.

As a nonprofit organization, Aldrich is fortunate to have an active Board of Directors which provides families with opportunities such as a fall festival, book fair, spring carnival, parent outreach classes, family restaurant nights, and much more. We embrace diversity, and are fortunate to have a student body that reflects that value in culture, race, financial status, and ability.

At Aldrich, Our Promise to You:

As teachers, we promise to love and encourage your children in a safe, hands-on, child-centered environment that fosters a love of learning.

When your child enters our Aldrich classroom, he/she will be given every opportunity to explore, wonder, problem solve, collaborate, communicate, and create.

A great deal of time and effort will go into designing purposeful learning centers in both our indoor and outdoor classrooms. These centers are meant to enhance not only students’ academic skills, but their social/emotional, language, motor, and self-help skills as well.

We promise you will not see worksheets or “cookie-cutter” artwork in our classroom. Your child deserves an education more outstanding than that. Instead, your children will be busy exploring and discovering. They will create their own original works of art. They will be challenged to think outside the box, and to take risks within a safe environment. Our goal is for them to develop a passion for learning and a steady confidence that will carry with them as they enter elementary school. We will be messy! We will be creative! We will be challenged! We will have fun! And, most importantly, we will LEARN – all through the power of play!

Thank you for sharing your child with us this year. We are honored to play a small part in his/her life. We cannot wait to watch these children learn and grow!
